Bergson's Hat-Trick Defeats Bangkok United

Bangkok United's Disappointing Start in ASEAN Club Championship

Bangkok United faced a crushing 4-0 defeat against Malaysia's Johor Darul Ta'zim in the opening match of the ASEAN Club Championship (Shopee Cup) at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Thursday night. The loss marked a challenging start for the Thai team, who found themselves at the bottom of Group B without a single point.

Johor Darul Ta'zim dominated the game from the outset, with Brazilian striker Bergson Da Silva leading the charge by scoring a hat-trick. His first goal came just a minute into the second half, setting the tone for an overwhelming performance. He then assisted Joao Figueiredo in doubling the lead six minutes later. Bergson added his third goal in the 73rd minute and completed his hat-trick in the 92nd minute, sealing a convincing victory for the home side.

The Angels, making their debut in this season’s competition, struggled to match the intensity of their opponents. Despite a strong start in the first 15-20 minutes, they failed to maintain that level throughout the match. Coach Totchtawan Sripan acknowledged the team's shortcomings, stating, "We played well in the first 15-20 minutes but we couldn't maintain that level throughout the match." He also praised the quality of Johor Darul Ta'zim's squad, saying, "Our opponents were strong. They played well and had so much quality in their team."

Despite the loss, the coach refused to blame the fixture congestion or travel as reasons for the defeat. "It's true we had to travel and played against a big team and it affected us, but that's not an excuse. Every team faces a similar situation and that's something you just have to deal with."

Buriram United Set for Tough Test Against Ayutthaya United

In other developments, Buriram United, the current leaders of the Thai League 1, will face promoted side Ayutthaya United today. Buriram has enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning their first five matches and sitting at the top of the league table with 15 points. Ayutthaya, on the other hand, are currently in eighth place with six points.

Buriram recently drew 2-2 with T1 rivals BG Pathum United in the ASEAN Club Championship, but they will be eager to continue their winning streak against a formidable Ayutthaya side that is known for its strong home performances.

Another promoted team, Kanchanaburi Power, will host Lamphun Warriors today. However, Kanchanaburi will be without a head coach following the departure of Dusit Chalermsan during the week. This adds to the challenges the team faces as they aim to secure their first win of the season. So far, they have managed only three points from three draws and two losses.

With these upcoming matches, the Thai League promises to be an exciting contest, with teams vying for positions in the standings and looking to build momentum for the rest of the season.
