World Tourism Day Celebrated with Emphasis on Sustainability and Culture
World Tourism Day is observed annually on September 27, and this year it is centered around the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” The global event aims to highlight the role of tourism in promoting sustainable development and fostering cultural exchange. In Agavedzi, a community located in the Ketu South District of the Volta Region, a tree-planting initiative will take place to mark the occasion. The day will be further enriched by a grand durbar of Chiefs in Somè, within the Klikor-Agbozume area, where traditional customs and heritage will be showcased in a vibrant display of culture.
The Black Star Experience, a program dedicated to promoting Ghana’s rich tourism offerings, has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts along with its agencies, the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Ghana Tourism Development Company. These organizations are spearheading a range of immersive activities that aim to provide visitors with unique experiences while highlighting the country’s diverse cultural and historical assets.
One of the highlights of the celebrations includes an exploration of canoe rides on the Avu Lagoon in the Keta area. Another key attraction is a visit to the Hedzranawo Museum and Fort Prezinstein, which offer insights into Ghana’s colonial history and the significance of these sites in shaping the nation's identity.
