What Is the New ESTA Fee?
Currently, the cost of an ESTA for UK travelers is $21 (£15.67). However, this fee is expected to nearly double on September 30, 2025. The updated price will be $40 (£29.85), which includes three separate components: the travel promotion fee, the operational fee, and the treasury general fund fee.
The increase comes as a result of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which introduced the Treasury General Fund fee at $13 (£9.70). Additionally, the operational fee has been raised from $4 (£2.98) to $10 (£7.46). The travel promotion fee remains unchanged at $17 (£12.69).
Do I Need to Pay the New Fee?
If you already have a valid and approved ESTA, you won’t need to re-apply for a new one immediately, even though the fee has increased. However, when your current ESTA expires, any future applications will be subject to the new rate of £29.85.
It's important to note that if you started your application before September 30 but haven't paid for it by that date, you will still be charged the updated fee. Therefore, it's advisable to complete your application and payment well in advance.
Understanding the ESTA
An ESTA, or Electronic System for Travel Authorisation, is necessary for short-term visits to the United States for business or tourism purposes. It allows travelers from VWP countries to enter the US without a visa for up to 90 days.
